To further roleplay the Macomb County Sheriff's Office allows its members to create, maintain and obtain membership in subdivisions. Subdivisions allow Deputies to receive specialized training and become experts in specific areas of enforcement. All subdivisions have internal rank structures, vehicle/uniform structures and documents which are maintained by their appointed coordinators in conjunction with the Macomb County Command Staff and Administration Team.
Narcotics Enforcement (COMET)
A Narcotics Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement focused on combating illegal drug activities. It conducts undercover operations, surveillance, and search and seizure operations to investigate and arrest individuals involved in drug-related crimes. The unit aims to disrupt drug trafficking networks, reduce drug-related crimes, and contribute to overall community safety.
K9-Unit
A K9 Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement that utilizes trained police dogs (K9s) to assist officers in various tasks. These highly skilled dogs are often trained for tasks such as drug detection, explosives detection, search and rescue operations, and apprehending suspects. The K9 Unit plays a vital role in enhancing law enforcement capabilities through the unique skills and abilities of police dogs.
Friend of the Court Enforcement
A "Friend of the Court Enforcement" for a deputy typically involves law enforcement officers, like deputy sheriffs, assisting in the enforcement of court orders, especially in matters related to family or civil issues. This may include tasks such as enforcing child support orders and civil judgments. Specific duties can vary based on jurisdiction and agency policies.
Marine Unit
A Marine Unit is a specialized division within law enforcement or public safety agencies that focuses on water-related activities and law enforcement. This unit is typically responsible for patrolling waterways, enforcing maritime laws, ensuring boater safety, conducting water rescues, and responding to emergencies that occur on lakes, rivers, or coastal areas. Members of a Marine Unit may operate boats or watercraft and receive specialized training in water rescue and navigation. The primary goal is to maintain safety and security on bodies of water within their jurisdiction.
Traffic Enforcement
Traffic Enforcement Unit (T.E.U.) provides traffic and commercial motor vehicle enforcement support to several of Macomb County’s municipalities under a local agreement. T.E.U. Officers focus on traffic enforcement and commercial vehicle enforcement within these Macomb County municipalities.
With a large focus on commercial vehicle enforcement, T.E.U. Officers provide safer roads by targeting unsafe and overweight commercial vehicles. The unit was designed to function as a self-supporting unit, thus not relying on General Fund Revenue to supplement it.
Special Weapons and Tactics
The Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T), is responsible for handling high-priority calls that normal patrol units aren’t equipped to handle. The SWAT team undergoes extensive training to prepare them for these situations. Their expertise is particularly crucial in managing hostage situations, robberies, and mass shootouts. Moreover, the SWAT team collaborates with COMET to serve warrants for wanted fugitives, enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of law enforcement operations.
